Q: COULD YOU TELL OUR READERS A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?
My name is Tamas Gyerman, was born in 1987. I'm a CG generalist. I'm from a small village in Hungary. My parents love the world is sci-fi, so this love inherits to me.
I like space mechanism, huge and tiny one too. By this cause, I'm a hard surface artist generally. Also, I like the nature's creatures; some of my images are on this topic.I like to work with character's equipments, weapons, cloth, armors and any of the parts, what can be wearable. I am working like a 2D artist too, and I draw much art many years before, but the world of CGI became more interesting for me. So I choose this way of profession. By this case, I like the most the Mattepiant - as digital image creation.
HOW DID YOU BECOME A 3D ARTIST?
When I was 12 years old, I met with Cinema4D Se. It was the first time, when I met software like this. And I like it!
By the old Star Wars and Starcraft's amazing creations, I would like to do similar. That's why I started this way of interest.
HOW DID YOU FIND EPIC, CINEMATOGRAPHIC FRAMES FOR A FINAL SHOT? AND WHAT KIND OF KNOWLEDGE HELPS YOU IN THIS?
I'm an independent person in CGI, but I tried to choose my schools that these can be useful in CGI. I learned to hand draw in primary and secondary school, at the college I learned photography, video, sound, design, web content, and scripting as Media developer. As a generalist, I'm interested in all of the phases of CG, from modeling to final Multipass compositing.
That’s helps to me find the best way to make a perfect image. Unfortunately, its not always succeed. I have to learn even so much more.
DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC PRODUCTION PIPELINE OR EACH PROJECT IS UNIQUE IN REALIZATION?
The interest in all phases helps me to find the best way of pipeline. For now I follow the standard industrial pipeline and I do not use any specific. I can tell that each of the images has a unique part because I do all of my personal images to learn something new. And Increase my skills.
WHAT A MAIN DIFFICULT THING OR STEP OF PRODUCTION IN YOUR WORK?
I can spend a lot of hours to find the best references from the Artistic / real world. The most important thing is how you can serve your idea / image. Now days this is the most important. Today the technology of CGI is so high that, like when I was a child. Photorealism become a daily standard. The engines working are easy.
So if you can find a good serving of your imagination, you have success, the other parts are "wood - cutting".
WHAT KIND OF SOFTWARE IN YOUR ARSENAL AND HOW YOU PREFER TO USE IT FOR DESTINATION FINAL RESULT?
In the industrial work, I use and used: Cinema4D - Bodypiant, 3DsMax, Vray, Maya, Arnold, Mentalray, Iray. Also, I prefer Zbrush, 3D coat, Photoshop and AutoCAD. And the very first steps with Mari and Modo.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR BEGINNER’S 3D ARTISTS?
There is a basic truth, when you learn more and more realize that you have so much more to learn. You never know enough. I'm too young to give advices, but you don't become a CGI Artist, because you have been download all available sources and may you've done at school. I think, if somebody wants to become a good 3D Artist, he or she has to choose at the first time, this is what you want. CGI is hard to learn at expert level. It needs years of extra learning. Mainly the industrial all day office work can burn the personality sooner than knowing enough.
COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT JOB AND CURRENT PROJECT YOU ARE WORKING?
Currently, I work as a high poly Subdiv, a hard surface prop modeler, texture artist and shaders are on the move.
DO YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE IN THE CINEMA, VISUAL EFFECTS INDUSTRY?
I worked with particles, simulations. I'm interested in VFX, but I have more experiences in stills than animations.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT VISUAL EFFECTS AND CINEMA TODAY?
I love to watch movies at the cinema, mainly sci-fi and middle age topic. As I told, CGI is in so high level today, and its increasing day by day. I think we start to use templates in each of Vfx. Unfortunately, a lot of films have a visual parade, but there is no real entertainment. We are so much in this world industry, and there are few of original ideas. As a CG artist, I am looking for individual ideas in the story and vfx.
DO YOU WANT TO WORK AND BE A PART OF A COLLECTIVE PEOPLE’S WHO WORKS ON THE CREATION OF WORLD BLOCKBUSTERS?
Yes, of course. Blizzard has own visual, world and imagination. I would like to a part of it.
WHO IS A FAVORITE ARTIST OR CG ARTIST FOR YOU?
I have no specific favorite artist, and I love the original ideas, not the use of industrial experiences in self-project.
COULD YOU SHARE YOUR NOTION ABOUT THE FUTURE OF VISUAL EFFECTS AND ALL OF CG INDUSTRY?
I have no enough experiences to tell anything major about it. Photorealism is a now days standard in the industry. Mocap and simulations are evolving extremely fast. I think, in about 10-15 years we can create full real contents for real world, as touchable holograms without any extra sensor equipments. The CGI will work as a science and will be working together. The artist gives ideas for the future.
